Leuchie House gains Investors in People status
28 Sep 2008
The Investors in People standard is a recognition of the way organisations achieve success through their people. Leuchie House decided to work towards IIP in 2008 and the first stage of this process was to undergo an assessment. IIP Assessor Graham Fry visited Leuchie for 2 days at the beginning of September to interview a comprehensive range of staff across all areas. Leuchie provided a list of all staff and the assessor chose who he wished to interview, meeting with around 25 staff. We were delighted to be told that the assessor was recommending that we be put forward for the IIP award straight away, and this was confirmed when the assessor’s report went to the judges with Leuchie formally achieving IIP status on 26th September.
The assessor said that the true spirit of IIP was present at Leuchie and made the following statements in his report:
“The close bond between staff and the guests is testament to the effective way the manager and senior staff support and work together in the best interests of the guests. The environment that has been created as a result is of a culture of mutual respect and integrity that makes Leuchie House a centre excellence in the work it does in caring for people affected by MS.......
Leuchie House effectively plans and delivers training for its entire staff within a positive support environment and is to be commended for this..............
The approach taken at Leuchie demonstrates the value placed on more informal but nonetheless effective ways of developing staff and the importance of applying the most appropriate ways for the individuals concerned. I found this strategy to be very successful in meeting the needs of the people involved.”
The assessor also made some recommendations in his report for Leuchie to work towards to ensure that we retain our IIP status when we are next fully assessed in 3 years’ time.
